What is the difference between the WhatsApp Business app and the platform?
The app is for one phone and a few devices, managed by hand. The platform (Cloud API) connects a number to software, so many agents can share an inbox, messages can be automated and templates sent at scale. A number used on the platform can’t be used in the normal app at the same time.
How does Meta charge for WhatsApp business messages?
Meta charges per message for delivered template messages, with rates by category — marketing, utility and authentication — and by the recipient’s country. Replies within an open 24-hour customer-service window are not charged. Rates change, so check Meta’s current pricing page.
Do WhatsApp templates need approval?
Yes. Templates are submitted to Meta with a category and are reviewed before use. Meta may reject or recategorise a template, for example treating a promotional message labelled utility as marketing. Approved templates can include variables for names, dates and project details.
