Also known as Cloud number, DID number
Businesses use virtual numbers to show one stable company number on listings and ads while calls ring on whichever agent is on duty. When an agent leaves, the number stays with the business — unlike a personal mobile that buyers have been calling for years.
Virtual numbers also make source tracking possible. A brokerage can assign one number to a portal listing, another to a Google ad and a third to a hoarding; the call log then shows how many calls each produced. Indian providers offer mobile-style and landline-style numbers, as well as toll-free and missed-call numbers, through KYC with the business.
Example
Numbers by source (illustrative)
A Chandigarh broker puts three virtual numbers to work: one on a 99acres listing, one on a Google search ad, one on a society notice board. In a month (illustrative) the portal number gets 42 calls, the ad 18 and the notice board 9 — but the notice board callers are all local and produce two rentals.

Questions about Virtual number
Can I keep my existing mobile number instead?
Yes. Many brokers keep calling from their own SIM and track calls with a phone app. A virtual number makes sense when you want a single company number, central recordings, routing to several agents, or separate numbers for each ad or listing.
Does a virtual number need KYC?
Yes. Telecom rules in India require the provider to verify the business, usually with company documents and the authorised person’s identity. Expect a few working days for activation, depending on the provider.
