Questions
Should the message include the bank account number?
No. Point to the account in the official demand letter. Account numbers in a message are easy to imitate, and buyers have lost money to fake “changed account” messages. Tell buyers you will never change the account by message.
When should demand reminders go out?
With the demand letter, a week before the due date, and on the due date. If a home loan funds the payment, also tell the buyer’s bank in time, since disbursement takes a few working days after the demand reaches them.
Tips
- Name the milestone, not just “instalment 5” — buyers check the slab against their payment plan.
- Never put bank account numbers in the message; refer to the demand letter so a forged SMS cannot redirect money.
- Send it between 9 am and 9 pm; a payment SMS at midnight reads like a scam.
The SMS version must match a template registered on DLT. Utility templates must relate to something the customer asked for.
