Questions

Frequently asked.

How many cents are in an acre?

100 cents make one acre, because a cent is defined as one-hundredth of 43,560 sq ft. A hectare is about 247.11 cents. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, holdings are often written as acres plus cents, such as 2 acres 40 cents (2.4 acres).

How many cents make one ground?

One ground of 2,400 sq ft is 5.51 cents, so a 10-cent plot is about 1.82 grounds. Grounds are used mostly in and around Chennai, cents across Kerala and the rest of Tamil Nadu, so this conversion comes up when a buyer compares plots in both.

Is a cent the same as a decimal?

Yes, in size. Both are one-hundredth of an acre, 435.6 sq ft. “Cent” is the name used in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh; “decimal” (or dismil) is used in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
